How to sell a domain name
Steps to price, list and safely sell a domain name, including where to list and how transfers work.
Price it realistically
Start with an appraisal and comparable sales. A buy-now price that is fair for an end user tends to sell faster than an open “make an offer”.
List it where buyers look
List on one or more marketplaces, and put a simple “for sale” page on the domain itself with a price or contact form.
Make the listing clear
Include a short description of who the name suits, and keep the price consistent across venues.
Get paid safely
Use a marketplace checkout or an escrow service. Don’t transfer the domain before the payment is confirmed by the platform.
Transfer the domain
Either push it to the buyer’s account at the same registrar or unlock it and give them the authorisation code. Many registrars also apply a transfer lock after recent changes, so check timing in advance.
Be patient
End-user sales are irregular. Keep renewing only the names you believe in, and review your prices periodically.
