How domain value is estimated
The factors that decide what a domain name is worth — length, extension, words, pronunciation and market demand — and how automated appraisals use them.
Why there is no single “price”
A domain is worth what a buyer will pay for it, and that depends on who needs it. An appraisal is an educated estimate of the likely price range, not a guarantee. Two honest appraisals of the same name can differ, and that is normal.
The factors that matter most
Length: shorter names are easier to remember and type, and there are far fewer of them. Three- and four-letter .com names are scarce, which is why they sell for much more than long phrases.
Extension: .com still carries the most trust and resale demand. Extensions such as .ai, .io and .co have strong niches; most others trade lower for the same word.
Real words: a name built from common, commercially useful words (pay, health, cloud) has a ready pool of buyers. Invented names can be valuable too when they are easy to say.
Pronunciation and spelling: if people can hear the name once and spell it correctly, it passes the “radio test”. Hyphens and numbers usually lower value.
Demand signals: when the same name is already registered in many other extensions, it shows that others want it.
How Estimated scores a name
Our appraisal tool combines these signals into a 0–100 score: length, extension, dictionary words and keywords, letter pattern (consonant/vowel rhythm such as CVCV), character quality and how many other extensions are taken. The score maps to a price range calibrated on typical aftermarket prices.
What an algorithm can’t see
Automated tools do not know about a specific buyer’s budget, trademark issues, existing traffic or the name’s history. For an important sale, compare with recent sales of similar names and treat the estimate as a starting point.
